Commander. Monarch. Negotiator. Insurgent Chief. What did Leia represent for you? Every one of those roles? In my view, she was among the earliest 'damsels in distress' who demonstrated to girls globally that female characters in science fiction films no longer had to be reduced to 'decorative baggage'—they could exchange laser shots with the most skilled fighters. I will deeply miss Carrie Fisher's portrayal of this incredible role, yet I remain endlessly thankful she brought her to life!
