These fluffy, sheepskin-upholstered easy chairs—often shaped like a snug little nest—have been popping up all over my Pinterest feed and in nearly every design magazine lately. It turns out this concept isn’t new at all; it actually belongs to the mid-century modern era.
The most iconic fuzzy chair, known as the Tired Man, was crafted by Danish furniture designer Flemming Lassen back in the 1950s. Fortunately, the Tired Man is once again in production (a good thing, since vintage models on 1stdibs run about $24,000). But even the new versions come with steep price tags.
The latest arrivals on the scene are literally named the Papa Bear and Baby Bear armchairs by Pierre Yovanovitch. They’re a bit too cutesy for my personal taste, but they might just be the most expensive chairs ever intended for a child’s room.
Many people are simply hunting down cool mid-century armchairs and reupholstering them in wooly sheepskin. I absolutely love the texture and the way it softens a room. In a home with wall-to-wall hardwood floors and stark white walls, a fuzzy chair would be the perfect way to add warmth. I’m seriously thinking about adding one to our dining room.
What do you think? Are you into these fluffy chairs, or have I just been staring at them too long?
