What a tremendous weekend this turned out to be for the Star Wars universe!
Rian Johnson's latest chapter arrived like a Christmas gift weeks ahead of schedule for everyone connected to the production and for theater operators throughout the country, raking in an enormous $220 million during its North American premiere — placing it just shy of the all-time record.
The film claims the runner-up spot in domestic opening history, trailing only Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Remarkable numbers!

Across the globe, the results proved equally triumphant: The Last Jedi pulled in an additional $230 million from 54 overseas territories, pushing its worldwide debut to roughly $450 million in just three days.
Those figures speak for themselves!
Disney's distribution president Dave Hollis revealed the studio had anticipated The Last Jedi would lag behind The Force Awakens, yet it appears even the Mouse House was caught off guard by the sheer scale of the franchise's latest triumph (below):
Beyond the staggering debut, the film has already secured its blockbuster credentials with a landmark first-week run. Even more noteworthy? China has yet to see its release!
The picture is scheduled to debut in Chinese theaters on January 5th, promising yet another significant surge at the box office in the coming weeks. Unbelievable numbers!
Ferdinand also entered theaters this weekend — the sole feature daring to compete with The Last Jedi — and managed only $13.3 million, marking the weakest premiere of any Fox Animation/Blue Sky production to date.
Meanwhile, Coco held its ground, pulling in more than $10 million over the weekend and lifting its worldwide gross to $448.2 million. A respectable showing!
So what do you say, Perezcious readers?! Did you catch anything on the big screen this weekend??
