With February 14th quickly approaching, I figured it would be entertaining to assemble a brief style guide offering some Valentine's Day ensemble suggestions, and additionally, should an entirely red outfit feel too bold, demonstrate various approaches to weave red into your attire in a more understated manner.
I'm consistently drawn to a red dress, and this season is certainly no different! I usually search for pieces that feel theatrical, refined, and classic, while still being something I could re-wear countless times. As you're aware, reusability ranks very high on my priority list. This season's standout find hails from Bloomingdale's, and honestly it was adoration at first glance (this specific version is no longer available, but comparable styles can be found here & here as well as through the widget beneath this post). The fitted strapless bodice is divine, the full asymmetric skirt is stunning, and those pockets are absolutely delightful! Such an unexpected detail on what is otherwise an extremely formal gown. For today's styling, I paired it with coordinating red strappy heels. Although I generally avoid matching my footwear to my outfits, this particular pairing succeeds because it visually lengthens the figure and produces a striking appearance. I briefly entertained the idea of a red clutch, however this charming "Love" clutch appeared tailor-made for the moment, and it nicely interrupted the sea of red.
A secondary method I enjoy weaving red into my Valentine's Day ensemble is through accessories! A timeless red handbag or a playful pair of red ankle boots styled with an entirely black outfit always looks sophisticated, refined, and far from excessive. Consider a classic red manicure (current obsession is Dior Vernis in Pandore) or a bold red lip to truly seal the deal.
And finally, jewelry. While I typically favor layering smaller, more delicate pieces, for fancier Valentine's Day ensembles, I usually gravitate toward a single standout piece such as a pair of dangle earrings (adore these and these) or a bold stack of bracelets. I've discovered that statement jewelry tends to enhance the dramatic flair of an evening look while also not pulling focus from the headline element, which is naturally the color red.
