Each year, this site takes a look at the latest New Year’s eyewear offerings, and 2018 does not let us down. My personal favorite, pictured above, is a pair of “2010” glasses where an extra 8 has been glued above the final digit. You would think they might use one of the TWO circles inside the 8 as a viewing hole, but no—the eight sits awkwardly above the 2010. Goodbye 20179 A.D., hello 20180 A.D.
These glasses also miss the point, cutting a hole straight through the 1 in 2018, completely ignoring the fact that other numbers already have built-in openings to look through.
And then there’s this bizarre pair, which abandons the whole number-as-lens concept entirely. Instead, “2018” floats over a 3D glasses template, and the entire thing is smothered in glitter.
I posted these on New Year’s Eve, so you couldn’t buy them in time. I know some of you are actually purchasing the items I feature. Don’t.
Happy New Year.
