Greetings, everyone! How's your week going? Are you excited for the weekend? We've got a packed schedule ahead. Olive is performing in a high school play tonight, we're attending two holiday parties, and Oscar has a band concert. More good news: Maude's final exam is tonight, marking the end of her semester, and she'll be home for a whole month. We're thrilled to have her back.
And here's another highlight: we're planning a short holiday getaway up the coast to Mendocino! We can't wait. The town features a holiday train and light show, and we've booked a family brunch. I'll be sure to share details.
What about you? What are your weekend plans? Do you have one more week of school before break? (Us too!) Traveling for the holidays? Tree already up? In the midst of Hanukkah? I'd love to hear how your December is unfolding. And I've gathered a few things to share:
– A thought-provoking quote: “I’ve never once heard a man explain away a burglary by questioning why a homeowner bothered taking such good care of his house if not to entice others to break in.”
– Here's the story of what happened when 14 wolves were reintroduced to Yellowstone. (I think I've shared it before, but I stumbled upon it again this week and still find it fascinating.)
– This tribute to Long Island women made me emotional. What would you write to the women you grew up with?
– I'm considering trying natural deodorant again. A Goop writer strongly recommended Schmidt's. Has anyone here used it?
– Further reflections on universal basic income, using Dolly Parton's approach as a template.
– A Harry Potter chapter generated by bots.
– My friend Lindsey, a talented designer, is running a small online pop-up called Commissary this weekend, offering a curated selection of beautiful items. I purchased the mix-and-match planner.
– A guide on assembling an excellent cheese board.
– A charming little robot that roams the beach, writing poems in the sand.
– A less charming robot story: robots are being deployed to discourage homeless individuals from camping in San Francisco. (Is this truly helpful? Does it bring us closer to affordable housing?)
– An article from the NYT: “My Generation Thought Women Were Empowered. Did We Deceive Ourselves?”
Wishing you a wonderful weekend. I'll see you back here on Monday. Already missing you!
kisses, Gabrielle
P.S. — If you're facing late nights (wrapping presents or hosting guests), remember the Dessert for Two.
