Worried about where you'll get your next dose of Starks, epic battles, and White Walkers once Game of Thrones concludes? You can stop worrying now: According to Entertainment Weekly, HBO has officially given the green light to a pilot for a prequel series.
George R.R. Martin, the author of the books that inspired the original show, will team up with writer Jane Goldman (who penned the script for Disney's upcoming live-action The Little Mermaid) to create this drama. The current showrunners, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, will not be involved—they're likely too occupied with their Star Wars projects!
If you're hoping to catch a glimpse of baby Jon Snow, think again. This prequel reaches far back into the fictional realm's "Age of Heroes," set 10,000 years before we first encountered the Starks in Game of Thrones. HBO describes the series as chronicling "the world's descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: From the horrifying secrets of Westeros' history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East, to the Starks of legend… it's not the story we think we know."
Like Jon Snow, the only thing we know is that we know nothing. As of now, the pilot lacks a title. With the final season of the original show returning in 2019, it's unlikely we'll see this prequel until the following year. The pilot also remains unnamed—but it has already captured our interest.
