A Swift Goodbye: Sunday Riley Auto Correct Eye Cream Review

A week-long trial of Sunday Riley's Auto Correct eye cream ended in irritation and disappointment. Here's why I'm not recommending it.

A Swift Goodbye: Sunday Riley Auto Correct Eye Cream Review

My experience with Sunday Riley's Auto Correct Brightening and Depuffing Eye Contour Cream was short-lived. After just one week, I've decided to stop using it. The product proved almost intolerable, prompting me to vent my frustrations.

Imagine a black crepe backdrop—this product's review is a eulogy.

On paper, Auto Correct seemed perfect for my needs. The brand promises lifting, depuffing, brightening, plumping, and moisturizing, with a list of ingredients I admire. I specifically asked for a sample and eagerly incorporated it into my regimen. Unfortunately, marketing claims don't always match reality.

Does it lift and depuff? Absolutely. That's the only praise I can offer. Within two or three days, I noticed a visible tightening and reduction in puffiness—I even developed double eyelids, a rare occurrence for me due to my salty diet causing water retention.

But beyond those benefits, the product falls apart.

It does brighten, but through cosmetic means—a light tint and abundant shimmer, similar to a sheer foundation. I don't consider this a skincare benefit; it's makeup.

Shimmer accentuates fine lines rather than hiding them. Instead of plumping, it highlighted the creases around my eyes. That's not a worthwhile exchange for a bit of brightness.

Worse, this eye cream failed to hydrate. My eye area became progressively drier and more sensitive. Initially, I blamed allergies, but the itching and irritation worsened. I resorted to applying COSRX snail essence several times daily for relief. Once I stopped using Auto Correct, the discomfort vanished.

Resisting the urge to rub my eyes was torture.

And the smell—unbearable. Imagine the odor of a damp towel left for days. That's what Auto Correct smells like, and it lingers on your eyes for hours. It's reminiscent of a Dane Cook comedy bit about making a friend smell your eyes after a strange date. Apologies for the obscure reference.

After a week of suffering with dry, itchy, odorous eyes, I'm finished. The product's botanical extracts might offer long-term benefits, but I'm not willing to endure this to find out.

For those interested, here's the full ingredient list, heavy on silicones and botanicals:

Sunday Riley Auto Correct Brightening and Depuffing Eye Contour Cream ingredients: Water, PEG-8 beeswax, caprylyl caprylate/caprate, C10-18 triglycerides, hydroxyethyl acrylalte/sodium acryloyldimethyl taurate copolymer, phenyl trimethicone, trimethylsiloxysilicate, polypropylsilsesquioxane, polyglyceryl-6 distearate, glycerin, jojoba esters, butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter polyglyceryl-3 beeswax, cetyl alcohol, dimethicone, polysilicone-11, theobroma cacao (cocoa) seed butter, fructose, aesculus hippocastanum (horse chestnut) extract, methylpropanediol, caprylyl glycol, caffeine, citrullus vulgaris (watermelon) fruit extract, pyrus malus (apple) fruit extract, lens esculenta (lentil) fruit extract, sodium PCA, sodium lactate, butylene glycol, PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil, ptychopetalum olacoides bark/stem extract, pfaffia paniculata (Brazilian ginseng) root extract, lilium candidum flower extract, phenoxyethanol, glycolic acid, synthetic fluorphlogopite, silica, mica, titanium dioxide, sodium phytate, carthamus tinctorius seed oil, tagetes erecta (marigold) flower extract

CosDNA analysis

Finding an exceptional eye cream is rare. Most are comparable to face creams, maybe richer or less fragranced. Auto Correct underperformed even average face creams, aside from lifting and depuffing. I'm returning to Sulwhasoo Timetreasure Renovating Eye Serum*, which showed gradual improvement without side effects. That's far better than this week of misery.

For lifting and depuffing without the drawbacks, try Amorepacific Intensive Vitalizing Eye Essence* (my holy grail for depuffing). For a rich, non-greasy, line-smoothing cream, Sulwhasoo Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Eye Cream* is unbeatable.

For a budget-friendly hydrating eye cream, Mizon Snail Repair Eye Cream* is effective and inexpensive. The Whamisa by Glow Recipe Chai Tea Eye Cream offers more richness.

None of these alternatives will leave your eyes smelling unpleasant, which is a bonus.
