Oven-Baked Orange Chicken Wings: Crunchy, Sticky, and Guilt-Free

Forget the deep fryer and try this fast, simple recipe for Oven-Baked Orange Chicken Wings, glazed with a sweet and tangy homemade sauce.

Everyone has those guilty food indulgences. Some crave sugary cereals or canned cheese, others swear by frozen pizza or toaster pastries. For me, it’s the mall food court-style orange chicken.

Yes, that sticky, addictive orange chicken you love in the moment but regret afterward.

Fortunately for me (and anyone else with a soft spot for non-traditional Chinese fare), I can now satisfy that craving without the guilt, thanks to these Oven-Baked Orange Chicken Wings.

Too good to be true? Not at all! The secret is skipping the deep fryer and letting your oven work its crisping magic.

By baking the wings at high heat on a rack, you get that enviable crunchy, golden-brown skin without the mess of deep-frying. For the iconic glaze, sweet orange marmalade meets spicy red pepper flakes, sautéed with loads of fresh garlic and ginger.

Now it’s your turn—what’s your ultimate guilty food pleasure?

Oven-Baked Orange Chicken Wings

For the chicken

  • 2 ½ lbs chicken wings, tips removed, drumettes and flats separated
  • 1 Tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

For the sauce

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes, or more to taste
  • 3/4 cup orange marmalade
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce

Rinse the wings and drumettes, then pat them dry. Place them in a large bowl and toss with vegetable oil, salt, and pepper. Arrange the wings in a single layer on baking racks, making sure they do not touch.

Bake, rotating the pan halfway through, until fully cooked, 45 to 50 minutes. Remove the wings from the oven and transfer them to a large bowl.

In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, combine the sesame oil and olive oil. Add the garlic and ginger, and cook, stirring, for about 3 minutes until golden brown.

Add the red pepper flakes, orange marmalade, and hoisin sauce, and cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes.

Pour the orange sauce over the wings, toss to coat evenly, and serve immediately.

Kelly’s Notes

If wings aren’t your preference, this glaze works just as well on chicken breasts, tenders, pork, or shrimp.
