Start Your Morning with This Natural Colon Cleanse

by Liivi Hess; The Alternative Daily

You’ve likely come across the concept of colon cleansing in recent years. It seems nearly everyone’s colon could use a periodic flush due to the toxic buildup that accumulates along its lining over time.

However, the idea of having a tube inserted and water forced through my colon doesn’t exactly appeal to me. And I’m sure many others feel the same way.

While colon hydrotherapy is effective, it’s far from the only method available. In fact, one of the most powerful colon cleansing techniques is also among the simplest and most affordable. It turns out that sea salt, besides making your food taste great, can also help restore your colon to pristine condition.

Signs you need to cleanse your colon

Although most people could benefit from a colon cleanse, some individuals are so severely impacted that it significantly disrupts their daily life. Here are common indicators that your colon may be in poor shape:

  • Digestive issues: This might seem obvious, but many overlook the underlying cause of their digestive troubles. Problems linked to a clogged colon include constipation, diarrhea, gas, and bloating.
  • Fatigue: When the colon lining is coated with waste, it struggles to absorb essential nutrients from food. Additionally, your body expends extra energy trying to eliminate toxins stored in the colon, leaving you drained.
  • Weight gain: A partially blocked colon hampers your primary waste removal system, leading to more waste lingering in your digestive tract and extra pounds on your body.
  • Bad breath and body odor: If you still smell despite showering and using deodorant, your colon could be the culprit. Toxins are excreted through sweat glands—especially in the armpits—and a toxin-laden colon may be why you have persistent odor.

Drink sea salt and water in the morning to cleanse your colon

Regardless of whether you exhibit these symptoms, a colon cleanse can likely benefit you. Instead of booking an expensive colon hydrotherapy session at a spa or clinic, a simple salt water flush offers similar results without the cost, discomfort, or intrusion.

But not all salt is the same! Table salt and sodium have gained a poor reputation in recent decades, and rightly so in many cases. Sea salt, however, is entirely different: because it remains unprocessed and natural, it retains essential vitamins and minerals that help your body process sodium more effectively.

This means it’s hard to overconsume natural salt—even if you have hypertension or cardiovascular issues—and you gain numerous other health advantages from eating this wholesome salt.

These benefits include:

  • Reduced inflammation in muscles and organs
  • Enhanced nerve function
  • Strengthened immunity
  • Better digestion
  • Balanced hormones
  • Regulated internal pH …and many more. Clearly, incorporating more unrefined sea salt into your diet is a positive step.

What better ingredient for a homemade colon cleanse? Drinking sea salt with water—and perhaps a splash of lemon juice—each morning can help flush your colon while delivering all the health perks mentioned above.

Sea salt colon flush recipe

As recipes go, this one is extremely straightforward—which is great because simple recipes are easier to stick with!

In a large glass jar, combine 2 cups of warm filtered water, 2 teaspoons of pure, unrefined sea salt (I prefer Celtic Gray Salt), and an optional tablespoon of lemon juice. The lemon juice improves the taste of the salty water, but it isn’t necessary.

Shake the jar until the salt is fully dissolved. If salt remains at the bottom after vigorous shaking, add a bit more water.

Drink your sea salt flush immediately upon waking, ideally within the first 5 minutes. This helps it work faster on an empty stomach.

Try to avoid using the bathroom for as long as possible—the longer you wait, the more time the salt flush has to activate your body’s natural waste detox system and start clearing your colon. You may need to go to the bathroom multiple times over the next couple of hours as your body completes the purge. Embrace it; you’re on your way to a healthier colon!
