This festive drink has been a holiday staple for centuries. Its name comes from its main ingredient—eggs—blended with milk, cream, and warm spices such as nutmeg and vanilla, often enhanced with rum, whiskey, or brandy.
Many of us first encountered eggnog in cartons from the store, and as kids, we couldn't get enough of it during the Christmas season.
I didn't realize until I was much older that eggnog is traditionally an alcoholic beverage!
To this day, I enjoy it with just a subtle kick of alcohol, or even none at all. That's why this recipe uses only a modest amount of spirits—feel free to add more rum or bourbon according to your taste, or skip them entirely for a kid-friendly version.
