Is the Narrator stuck on your Xbox One, leaving you unable to figure out how to deactivate it? This accessibility tool is meant to assist individuals with vision challenges in navigating the console, but if you've turned it on by accident and don't require it, it can become very irritating quickly.
Steps to Deactivate the Narrator on Xbox One
- Hold down the Xbox button on your controller until it gives a vibration and the power menu appears.
- Hit the Menu button (located on the right side of your controller) to switch off the Narrator. This same shortcut is probably what caused you to activate the Narrator unintentionally in the first place.
Another method is to turn off the Narrator through the system settings:
- Press the Xbox button to bring up the Guide, then navigate to the gear icon.
- Choose Settings, then go to the Ease of Access section.
- Open the Narrator panel, and on the far-left panel, set Narrator to off.
You can also stop the Narrator via Kinect voice commands: say "Hey Cortana, turn off Narrator" (or "Xbox, turn off Narrator" if Cortana is disabled).
If a keyboard is connected to your Xbox, press the Windows key + Enter to toggle the Narrator on or off.
This feature enables users with disabilities to move around their Xbox consoles, but it can be maddening to have every action on the menu read out loudly. If you ever accidentally reactivate the Narrator, it's probably due to that quick shortcut. Keep that in mind, as it's the fastest way to turn the Narrator off.
