According to a source speaking with E! News, the celebrity pair had been experiencing difficulties in their marriage for most of the past year. They publicly confirmed their separation in a statement issued last week, indicating the relationship concluded in late 2017.
“They have been apart for two months,” the insider revealed, “but serious problems had been brewing for roughly eight months.”
As earlier reports noted, the couple's coast-to-coast living arrangements created friction in their relationship. The source elaborated: “Jen genuinely attempted to salvage the marriage, but the geographic separation proved insurmountable since Justin insisted on residing in New York City and she wouldn’t budge. Their day-to-day lives simply didn’t align, and in the end, Justin made the call to walk away.”
“For a few weeks after Justin departed, Jen was managing fairly well,” the source continued. “But the public announcement stirred everything up again.” Naturally, the 49-year-old actress remains optimistic, handling her emotions day by day.
The source added that Aniston is “getting used to life on her own without Justin. The house has felt empty for months because he’s been gone, but that still doesn’t make it easy. She understands that eventually she’ll feel much better, but for now she’s just going through the routines.”

According to the insider, Aniston has relied most heavily on her Friends costar Courteney Cox. “Courteney has visited her home repeatedly and stood by her throughout the entire ordeal. Many of Jen’s close friends were aware of the situation for months and anticipated the breakup. Quite a few people never believed Jen and Justin were well-suited for each other, but they still backed her choices.”
As the former spouses adjust to their changed circumstances, numerous uncertainties about what lies ahead for both Jennifer and Justin persist.
And before speculation about a possible reunion between Aniston and her former husband Brad Pitt gains traction, the source advises fans not to get their hopes up. “Jen never brings up Brad,” the insider stated. “Reigniting that relationship isn’t even discussed. She has always considered that part of her life closed and long behind her.”
