Claudia Damichi never imagined a life outside the arts. From her earliest years she would lose herself for hours in canvases and sketches… and in many respects nothing has changed, apart from the fact that what was once a pastime is now her professional pursuit.
Claudia
Spanning a variety of mediums — from stretched canvas pieces and painted walls to a fresh collection of adhesive prints — every piece Claudia produces revolves around hue, motif and form. "My inspirations stretch across a broad spectrum, from Sonia Delaunay's textile work to the perceptual environments built by Sol LeWitt," Claudia notes. "Ultimately, I'm preoccupied with how colour and pattern can electrify an environment, whether it exists physically or only in the mind's eye."
Claudia's pieces have graced galleries throughout Australia and overseas, alongside laneway installations and the residences of well-known figures. Born from a fascination with architecture and the constructed world, her Artwalls — as she calls them — are monumental, vividly coloured murals tailored to each location. "I read the space and its surroundings, then craft an original piece designed specifically for that environment," Claudia explains. "These pieces break art free from the confines of a traditional frame and suggest that any surface, any wall, starts as an empty canvas."
Two Attachables
What we consider her most distinctive output, however, are the Attachables: adhesive fine art prints engineered to stick to any smooth surface. The debut pattern carries the title Round About, with two additional releases scheduled for the coming year. "The concept behind them is that art should travel anywhere — across walls, across floors, across ceilings! Each one functions as a standalone artwork, yet they also have the capacity to be installed in groupings."
