Restrained Beauty and Sunlit Calm at the Heart of Beverly Hills

Nestled in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, a magnet for stars, this 3,000-square-foot home unites warmth, restraint, and golden California daylight.

Restrained Beauty and Sunlit Calm at the Heart of Beverly Hills

Set within the legendary enclave of Beverly Hills in Los Angeles, California—a destination long associated with celebrity life—stands this striking 3,000-square-foot dwelling. The project was brought to life by Ehrlich Yanai Rhee Chaney Architects, with Takashi Yanai and Megan Lawler leading the design effort in 2016.

Street-facing elevation of the contemporary structure

Conceived for a young couple and their newborn, this understated residence emphasizes clarity and luminosity. In deference to a neighborhood dominated by 1940s Spanish Revival homes, the architects calibrated the building's footprint and proportions to echo those of its neighbors.

Entry vestibule featuring a timber door

Drawing on the material vocabulary of traditional Spanish architecture while updating each finish with a contemporary sensibility, the palette unites stucco, concrete, and timber into a calm, welcoming composition amid the urban context. A pool, carefully orchestrated plantings, and a layered entry sequence work together to amplify the usable outdoor area across the 6,000-square-foot site.

Compact, sunlit media lounge

Full-height glazed sliding panels shape the principal living area, where the lounge and dining room extend outward toward the rear garden and a reflecting pond. This open gesture dissolves the boundary between indoors and out, lending the home a sense of generosity and capturing the appeal of the Southern California climate. Upstairs, the master suite incorporates its own bathrooms and wardrobe spaces, opening onto a private balcony that surveys the backyard below.
