Lucie Koldova reimagines modern living through light and mood for Das Haus at IMM Cologne 2018, blending glass artistry with functional design.

Czech Lighting Designer Lucie Koldova Illuminates Das Haus at IMM Cologne

For the 2018 edition of Das Haus at IMM Cologne, Czech lighting designer Lucie Koldova presents a vision of contemporary living where illumination and atmosphere take center stage.

IMM Cologne, the year's inaugural major furniture trade fair, begins on Monday, January 15, featuring the highly anticipated Das Haus installation. Now in its seventh year, Das Haus annually tasks an international designer with creating a space that embodies their personal perspective on future living. For 2018, Czech lighting designer Lucie Koldova unveils a setting where lighting, not furniture, assumes the primary role.

Divided into five distinct rooms arranged around a central living area, Koldova's roughly 180-square-meter house concept highlights how lighting shapes our moods and emotions. The five holistic themes Koldova explores through her meticulously crafted lighting designs are sleep and relaxation, meditation, bathing, inspiration, and dressing—each meant to evoke a specific feeling while serving a practical purpose in daily life.

Described as "poetry in glass," Koldova's Das Haus also underscores the centuries-old glassblowing tradition for which her homeland is famous. At the heart of the main living space—the symbolic center of her home—are her Puro pendants for Brokis (the Czech lighting brand where Koldova serves as artistic director), reimagined in a suspended, campfire-like arrangement. In the bathroom, an all-glass washbasin will be installed. Das Haus will also debut several new designs by Koldova that are expected to exemplify her distinctive approach—a harmonious mix of femininity, sophistication, and curiosity.

Accompanied by a palette of soft, soothing colors and shapely furniture—including a smooth, pebble-like modular sofa designed by Koldova herself, along with curated pieces from designers she admires—this year's Das Haus aims to evoke a sense of calm and provide a tranquil retreat from the trade show floor's activity.

Das Haus will be showcased in the Pure Editions area (Hall 2.2) at imm Cologne, running from January 15 to 21, 2018.
