A 10-page letter dispatched by Morgan Freeman's legal representative, Robert M. Schwartz, to CNN chief Jeff Zucker has been secured by The Hollywood Reporter. The correspondence charges CNN with "defaming" the actor and "inflicting serious injury" upon his reputation.
The letter claims that CNN alleged Lori McCreary, who co-founded Revelations Entertainment with Freeman, observed an improper incident and made a biased comment regarding a female job applicant.
Additionally, The Hollywood Reporter notes that Freeman's legal team has initiated their own probe into the accusations. According to Freeman's attorneys, CNN reporter Chloe Melas—who alleged that Freeman made improper remarks about her physique—lacked any "reasonable basis" to view those comments as harassment. They highlight that Tyra Martin, a reporter for WGN-TV, has publicly stated that CNN distorted her statements. Martin informed CNN that certain remarks by Freeman gave her reason to hesitate, yet she never felt uneasy.
Freeman's legal team further asserts that any episode involving him and Lori McCreary was reviewed by an impartial third party and found to be without merit.
Naturally, Freeman's attorneys have not addressed the other eight women who came forward as victims and the eight additional female witnesses who spoke to CNN.
Following CNN's report, Vancouver's transit authority declared they would temporarily cease using Freeman's voice. Visa likewise cut ties with him. Smart move, Visa. The only discomfort a Visa ad should cause is the realization that my credit card balance won't be paid off by month's end.
