Jim Carrey Wins Dismissal Of Every Lawsuit Brought By His Late Girlfriend's Relatives

The tangled legal battle Jim Carrey faced following the death of Cathriona White seems to finally be wrapping up.

Jim Carrey Wins Dismissal Of Every Lawsuit Brought By His Late Girlfriend's Relatives

The complicated courtroom saga Jim Carrey has been navigating since the passing of his former partner Cathriona White looks like it might finally be over. Naturally, the chaos that tends to follow Jim Carrey shows no signs of slowing down. However, for now he can set aside any concerns about heading back to a courtroom to attempt another round of his Liar, Liar routine.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, every legal action tied to Jim Carrey and Cathriona White has now been dropped. Back in 2016, one year after Cathriona White took her own life, her spouse Mark Burton and her mother Brigid Sweetman launched a wrongful death suit against Jim. The allegations claimed Jim had transmitted multiple STDs to Cathriona, provided her with numerous pills despite awareness of her struggles with depression, and ultimately pushed her to a breaking point.

Jim countered with a lawsuit of his own, accusing Mark and Brigid of attempting to extract money from him, and stating that Cathriona had been blackmailing him using fabricated STD test results. Jim's attorney Raymond Boucher ultimately determined that Cathriona had falsified an STD screening from 2011, which predated her meeting Jim by a year.

THR has not disclosed what ultimately triggered the dismissal of the cases. It's also unclear whether Mark and Brigid retain the option to file another suit against Jim Carrey down the road. What is confirmed is that the formal ruling was issued on January 25th. A spokesperson for Jim Carrey simply remarked that he is eager "to moving on with his life." Attorney Michael Avenatti, who represents Mark and Brigid, offered THR a brief response: "We have no further comment at this time."

If dipping his toes back into the dating pool happens to factor into Jim's strategy for turning the page, he may want to mentally prepare himself for dusting off that old "Alrighty then!" catchphrase. Given everything that has surfaced publicly, it will likely become his automatic reaction after facing rejection from woman after woman who have heard plenty about what relationships with Jim Carrey actually involve.
