I frequently emphasize how crucial it is to unwind and carve out personal time, but in reality, I rarely follow my own advice. Sure, I might take a day off here or there, but it’s never consistent. I suppose we don’t always live by the principles we advocate, and in my profession, last-minute demands make vacations a rare luxury — hard to plan and even harder to actually take, even when I truly want to.
This year, however, everything fell into place perfectly. For the first time in seven years, I managed to set aside an entire week to spend with my family — they traveled here to celebrate my birthday — and I now realize how much I was missing out. Although a week may not sound lengthy, by the end of it I felt more inspired, more composed, and ready to tackle new challenges. I was more relaxed, recharged, and prepared for whatever lies ahead. It’s astonishing what a string of lazy beach days, lingering dinners, and late nights binge-watching Netflix can accomplish. I’m currently considering planning another week around the holiday season, but until then, I’m determined to discover more ways to relax and unwind — and to allow myself the occasional lazy day.
In the past, a few approaches worked well for me: staycations (a mini getaway is better than none at all), spa days at home (the perfect excuse to gather all your friends and test every beauty product imaginable), and ultra-lazy days at home (cozy pajamas, takeout, and Netflix). But what about you — how do you relax?
