Wendy Williams has moved past her recent flu-like symptoms, yet the daytime presenter is now dealing with a barrage of criticism. Loyal members of the BeyHive descended on Williams following her remark that Beyoncé relies on autotune to deliver live vocals.
During Wednesday's broadcast (Feb. 20), Williams weighed in on the wave of criticism directed at Fergie after her shaky performance of the Star-Spangled Banner at the NBA All-Star event. The outspoken host insisted Fergie lacks the ability to perform unassisted and depends on pitch-correction technology to sound acceptable.
Williams then expanded her list, pointing to other artists she claims cannot hold a note without electronic help — Queen Bey included.
The studio crowd responded with only mild interest to her autotune observations, but the mood shifted the instant Beyoncé's name entered the conversation. Audience members drew a sharp breath and appeared visibly reluctant to side with Williams. She quickly attempted damage control, singing the praises of Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, and Adele for their proven live abilities.
The damage, however, was already done. Williams surged to the top of Twitter's trending list as Beyoncé's devoted supporters pounced on her misleading claim. Followers circulated footage showcasing Beyoncé's pitch-perfect acoustic performances, while firing off pointed counter-attacks aimed directly at the host.
This marks yet another chapter in Williams' ongoing campaign against the superstar. She has previously questioned Beyoncé's intellect and remarked that the Houston-raised performer communicates as though she possesses only a "fifth grade education."
Even after enduring repeated public backlash from the BeyHive, Williams continues to take aim at the singer. It seems unlikely this will mark the final time she directs a cutting remark toward Queen Bey.
