HBO launches 'Westworld: The Maze' on Alexa — a choose-your-own-adventure voice game playable on any Amazon Echo device.

HBO Debuts 'Westworld: The Maze' Interactive Adventure for Alexa Devices

Step into HBO's sci-fi Western saga without leaving your couch — the only thing required is an Amazon Echo. The network has rolled out its debut full-fledged Alexa voice skill, titled Westworld: The Maze, a branching narrative experience that demands sharp familiarity with the Emmy-winning series in order to survive.

The Maze drops right before the show's June 24 season 2 finale. In the meantime, fans can dive headfirst into an unfamiliar frontier where every decision could mean survival or doom. Anyone who hasn't wrapped up season 1 should catch up with our recap before jumping in.

Setting things up is simple: head to your Amazon profile, look up Westworld: The Maze under Alexa skills, and confirm your Echo is linked to that account. Activate the skill, and you're cleared to begin.

Once you're settled next to your Echo, simply speak the phrase "Alexa, open Westworld," and you'll be dropped straight into the world you've only watched on screen. The Maze packs in more than 60 gripping story branches, roughly 400 decision points, and over two hours of total playtime. Crack riddles and pose the right queries to reach the maze's core faster. Finishing in as little as 20 minutes is possible — provided you pick correctly and manage to stay breathing.

The journey opens with a locomotive rolling in the background and the crunch of footsteps carrying you toward a saloon door. Rose, who runs the saloon, takes on the role of your in-game navigator. She lays out the Maze's structure across three stages built around memory, improvisation, and self-interest. Nail the challenges, and you'll breach the center. Trek through Python Pass, wander into Delos Inc., but weigh every option carefully, since your survival is on the line.

Familiar voices such as Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) and Clementine (Angela Sarafyan) accompany you along the way, offering encouragement through the trials ahead.

Take a look at the eerie trailer, then test your Westworld expertise inside Westworld: The Maze.
