We’re thrilled to unveil the newest version of our award‑winning travel budget app, Trail Wallet!
Tim Cook once described it as “possibly the greatest travel app our platform has ever seen, and I would know. I’ve seen all the apps.”
(Okay, he never actually said that out loud or wrote it down, but we’re pretty sure he’s thinking it.)
Trail Wallet 3.4 delivers a major feature that has topped the request list for ages—photo support!
So many of you have emailed, left reviews, told me in person, sent carrier pigeons, used semaphore flags, and even thrown bricks with notes through my windows, all asking for the ability to snap photos of receipts and attach them to your entries. Well, now you can!
See? I do listen! Eventually!
(There were plenty of boring technical reasons, plus a few more existential ones, for the delay. I won’t dive into all that here. Let’s just say implementing this changed me.)
Photos are stored in iCloud alongside your other backup data and can be exported with the CSV files. The CSV files include references to the filenames, making it easy to match everything up on your computer.
Introducing Trail Wallet 3.4: Photo Support and More
And That’s Not All!
Other notable features in this release include:
- Tapping a bar in the bar chart now takes you to a summary of that day’s spending—another frequently requested addition.
- Spreading amounts over multiple days has been simplified, and the confusingly cryptic error message is gone.
- The History screen now clearly shows which amounts have been split across days by displaying both the original total and the divided amount. It makes more sense when you see it than when you try to explain it.
How You Can Support Trail Wallet (Even More Than You Already Do)
Trail Wallet turns 5 this December and still receives regular updates and big new features. We don’t charge for updates or use subscription pricing, so we rely on finding new users to keep going.
Your wonderful reviews and ratings help, as do the personal recommendations you make in bars and hostels around the world. But if you really want to see Trail Wallet continue to grow, there’s now a Small Tip in‑app purchase where you can throw in an extra dollar (or local equivalent) to fund future development. Feeling generous? Keep tapping that button to give more!
This option appears in Trips → Settings, but only if you’ve been using the app for a while and have more than 300 entries.
Despite what you may have heard about the app economy creating teenage billionaires, I am neither a teenager nor a billionaire. Honestly, Trail Wallet lives on the edge of existence most of the time—it makes barely enough to make it worthwhile for me to keep working on it—so any extra financial support really does make a difference.
But no pressure! Our continued love for you is not contingent on you giving us more money!
And if you haven’t tried Trail Wallet yet, what are you waiting for? You heard what Tim Cook (maybe) said—download it today!
A Fresh New Website – All About You
You might have noticed we recently completed a massive update to our website. As much as I still love the 90s Tim Burton aesthetic, the old theme was, frankly, starting to look dated.
Time for a refresh!
We figured you’re not here to see giant headers or huge photos of us—you want the juicy destination posts, tasty vegetarian survival guides, and money‑saving pages. So we redesigned the site from the ground up to be modern, fast, mobile‑friendly, and focused on getting you to the content you want as quickly as possible.
With nearly 8 years of content, we’re still ironing out bugs, so let us know if you find any problems!
We hope you like it!
