Spanish design firm Clap has employed arch-shaped openings and bold primary colors to design a lively children's shoe store situated on a street corner in Valencia.
The local studio was tasked by the owners of the children's footwear brand Little Stories to assist in shaping its brand identity.
"Through several collaborative sessions with the client, we identified three core elements that captured the spirit of Little Stories: play, simplicity, and flexibility," noted Clap.
Armed with this insight, the studio proceeded to design a tangible retail environment.
The 70-square-meter shop features a tiled exterior fronted by three oversized arched windows.
Inside, whitewashed walls and light gray flooring provide a neutral canvas, allowing the store's fixtures to deliver bursts of color.
Lights housed in thick blue, yellow, and red tubes hang from the ceiling, illuminating the cylindrical display stands positioned beneath them.
These primary colors are also used to paint cartoonish line drawings on the floor, creating small pathways for children to navigate through the store.
"The concept behind these lines was rooted in freedom, fun, and adaptability—traits we believe characterize a child's mindset," explained Angela Montagud, a designer at the studio, to Dezeen.
"Every element is crafted to spark imagination and play, while also drawing attention to the displayed products."
The window design is mirrored in the arched doorways of the fitting rooms, the domed mirrors placed along the perimeter walls, and the curved checkout counter.
Footwear is also showcased on metal semicircular shelves, which are removable and repositionable thanks to a magnetic plate attached to the wall.
While Clap infused its interior with vivid tones, fellow Spanish studio Nábito chose a pale palette for a children's shoe store in Barcelona, covering the entire space with white, grid-like ceramic tiles to evoke the orderly lines of school notebooks.
