Get ready for some holiday sensory fun with this wonderfully festive Christmas Tree Slime recipe, perfect for kids this season!
We’ve been absolutely loving the slime craze in our home, with four kids who can’t get enough of playing with it and dreaming up exciting new mix-ins every time we make a fresh batch!
Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve created three fun Christmas-themed slimes, and they’re ideal for making with the kids during school break or even as DIY gifts for their friends!
The basic recipe is incredibly simple, uses easy-to-find ingredients that are readily available here in the UK and across Europe, and in my opinion, it’s safer than some other recipes that rely on undiluted cleaning detergents as a key component.
Ingredients
PVA glue, white or clear (also known as school glue or Elmer’s brand)
Bicarbonate of soda (baking soda in the US)
Contact lens solution (there are various types; if you click the link to the one we used, it works perfectly! If you can’t choose this exact one, make sure it contains boric acid (borax) in the ingredients list. It simply won’t work without it.)
Gel food coloring
Holly and berry sequins
Glitter
Clear baubles (optional, for gifting)

For this Christmas Tree Slime recipe, follow the simple instructions below using the ingredients from the list above.
The holly and berry sequins make this slime absolutely gorgeous to play with, but you can substitute other Christmas-themed additions too!

Instructions for Christmas Tree Slime
Pour 1 cup of PVA glue into a clean bowl.
Add 1 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda (baking soda).
Mix them together well.
Add 1/2 teaspoon of green food coloring and stir until you achieve a bright green shade.
Next, add 1–2 tablespoons of contact lens solution.
Mix with a spoon until the mixture starts to become stringy and pulls away from the sides of the bowl (similar to when you’re scrambling eggs).
At this point, take it out of the bowl and knead it between your hands. It will feel sticky at first, but within about 20 seconds it will firm up and stick only to itself, becoming elastic and super stretchy.
If it’s still too sticky, add a few more drops of contact lens solution until it’s just right. Be careful—too much will make it brittle and prone to snapping.
Now generously sprinkle the sequins over the Christmas Tree Slime and mix them in until it sparkles beautifully!
Stretch it, play with it, snip it with scissors, squish it like silly putty, and have fun! 😊
This Christmas Tree Slime looks stunning when packaged in clear baubles tied with red ribbon, making a perfect gift for kids to give to their friends! It even looks fun hanging on the tree.
We used some giant clear baubles, but smaller ones would let you share one batch of slime among more people.
Slime Cleaning Tip:
If the kids get slime on their clothes… DON’T PANIC! I’ve discovered an easy way to clean it off: simply squirt on washing-up liquid/dish soap, let it soak in a bowl of water, then wash as usual in the machine. It comes right off—phew!
