Dakota Johnson Addresses Golden Globes Photo: 'I Was Trying to Film the Stranger Things Cast'

Dakota Johnson explains the viral Golden Globes photo, revealing she was actually trying to secretly film the Stranger Things kids, not sneaking a look at Angelina Jolie.

Dakota Johnson Addresses Golden Globes Photo: 'I Was Trying to Film the Stranger Things Cast'

Following the Golden Globes, a snapshot of Dakota Johnson seemingly stealing a glance at Angelina Jolie during Jennifer Aniston's presentation went viral. When Jimmy Fallon brought it up on his show, Johnson laughed and admitted she wouldn't deny that interpretation. However, she noted, "Armie Hammer's wife was doing the same thing. I wasn't the only one. Elizabeth Chambers was very openly staring at her. She's like, 'What's she going to do?' I was trying to be subtle."

Johnson went on to clarify that the particular photo might not even capture her gazing at Jolie. "Honestly, I don't believe I was truly looking at her. If you examine the direction of my eyes closely, they're sort of pointing diagonally off to the side," she demonstrated with a gesture.

Fallon then inquired, "So what were you actually looking at?"

Johnson explained, "There was a children's table, specifically the one for the Stranger Things cast. I'm a huge fan of that show, so I attempted to send a friend a video—which is ironic because I hate when people secretly take photos of me in restaurants. But there I was at the Golden Globes, surrounded by celebrities, trying to film those kids. I know they're children, but I was zooming in and accidentally caught Ridley Scott, who appeared to be asleep—though he might have just been looking at his phone. It definitely looked like he was napping."

Johnson wasn't bluffing; Fallon had the video and played it on air. Throughout the interview, Johnson struggled to contain her laughter, from recounting her dog's encounter with a skunk earlier to the Golden Globes saga. It was entertaining.
