Fresh Design Directions to Embrace in 2018

Bid farewell to 2017 and welcome the new year with bold design choices. Discover three trends that will transform your home.

Fresh Design Directions to Embrace in 2018

Bidding farewell to 2017 (and not a moment too soon), I'm eager for a brand-new beginning this year. Are you with me? My resolution for 2018 is to embrace opportunities that challenge me, especially those that push me beyond my comfort zone. After all, growth requires change, doesn't it? This applies to life's big questions as well as to our living spaces. That's why I've teamed up with Overstock.com to explore some innovative design concepts you can purchase immediately. Below are three design directions I'm keeping an eye on for 2018.

The first trend capturing my attention is the rounded couch. A curved sofa provides a more lavish, elegant appearance compared to standard rectangular designs. It may require some convincing to believe you can execute this style, but a curved couch elevates the refinement of any living room or lounge area. The key lies in how you accessorize it. In the image above, the vintage rattan coffee table and eclectic print combination keep the space welcoming, while the curved sofa ensures lasting visual appeal.

White kitchens remain timeless, but they are increasingly seeming like the safe choice. Black kitchens, conversely, make a bold declaration—ideal for a fresh start in 2018. If you're daring, you can opt for an all-black scheme with black countertops and backsplash, but I prefer the harmonious appearance of the kitchen pictured above. The cabinets are complemented by gorgeous marble counters, a concrete backsplash, and a mix of metal finishes (don't be afraid to combine metals!). The result is a warm, inviting atmosphere rather than an austere one. This style undoubtedly delivers a wow factor.

Just as with white kitchens, the same applies to other all-white spaces. It's easy to stay in the safe neutral zone (my usual approach), but vibrant colors are set for a major resurgence in 2018. Scandinavian minimalism can only hold our attention for so long. Deep shades—whether green, blue, gold, or even purple (Pantone still needs to win me over)—energize any room. I'm particularly fond of bold colors on tabletops, as shown here!

So what do you think? Are you ready to experiment with these trends? Below are some items that can help you incorporate these styles into your home today.
