Supplies:
- 2 cm felted wool balls
- Small tassels
- Small clothespins
- Embroidery thread
- Large darning needle
- Essential oils
Start by cutting a piece of embroidery thread about 16 inches long. Pass one end through the metal spring loop at the center of your clothespin (you might need the needle if the thread doesn't go through easily). Pull until the thread's midpoint is reached, then tie a knot roughly an inch below the clothespin.
Thread both ends through the needle and add three wool balls, placing your top color first. Secure with a knot after the third ball.
Slide a small tassel onto one thread and knot again to hold it in place. All components are now positioned, but we'll do one more step to conceal the thread inside the bottom wool ball.
Re-thread both ends through the needle and pull the thread back up through the center of the bottom wool ball, exiting at the top. Trim the thread as close to the exit point as possible. Your thread ends are now neatly hidden, and your diffuser is ready for use!
Choose a high-quality essential oil (we recommend therapeutic grade, 100% pure oils with no fillers) and add 3–4 drops of your preferred oil to the wool ball section. If you want to blend scents (a great idea!), start with 1–2 drops of each and test the strength before adding more.
To install, simply clip the clothespin onto one of your vent slats and enjoy the drive! Hanging it higher on the vent gives an extra burst of scent when the heat or air blows out, but you can clip it on the lowest rung if you prefer less intensity. Some people hang air fresheners from the rearview mirror, but that's actually illegal in most states, so sticking with the vent clip is best. Reapply oils as needed to refresh the scent.
As for which scent to use, that's entirely your choice, but may I suggest calming lavender or rosemary for your rush-hour commute? 😊 xo. Laura
