Inside Joanna Gaines' Beloved Fixer Upper Episode Five Reveal

Joanna Gaines shares why one particular Fixer Upper makeover ranks among her most cherished projects, featuring a family's stunning Moditerranean transformation.

Inside Joanna Gaines' Beloved Fixer Upper Episode Five Reveal

Joanna Gaines recently took to Instagram to confess that the latest Fixer Upper makeover ranks high on her list of personal favorites. "The details and style of this week's Fixer Upper house may be one of my all time favorites!" she gushed. The makeover spotlighted the Aguilar family, a family of four who had recently relocated from Puerto Rico to Waco, Texas.

The Aguilars were searching for a home that could comfortably accommodate their two children while reflecting a modern Mediterranean aesthetic—what the Gaines affectionately call "Moditerranean." To bring the vision to life, Joanna layered in natural materials like stone and wood, pairing them with stucco, jute, quartz accents, and touches of greenery throughout the home.

To make the layout feel more spacious, Joanna tapped Chip to expand the main living area, merging the dining and living rooms into one open concept. Arched windows and vaulted ceilings with exposed beams were also incorporated into the design. "By incorporating these two elements into a clean, open space, the whole room instantly feels like a major transformation," Joanna noted. In the kitchen, a quartzite backsplash running from countertop to ceiling introduces rich texture, while warm wood tones keep the area from feeling overly clinical.

The master bedroom, however, is where Joanna's pride truly shines. While Chip initially proposed converting the garage into a master suite, it was Joanna's design choices that elevated the space. "The first thing your eye is drawn to in the master bedroom is the stonework on the focal wall. I love the variation of colors in the stone and how it balances out the modern, black french doors and light fixtures," she shared. To offset the bold stone, she chose gentle accents—linen bedding starting at $35 (westelm.com) and a jute rug priced at $140 (overstock.com).

It's easy to see why Joanna holds this home in such high regard, but we'll be holding off on naming our own top pick until the rest of the final season has aired.
