Allow me to share somebody pretty special with you all today. A few of you might find this amusing, while others will completely relate… but I figured he deserved a bit of context and a proper welcome since he stands out from the crowd, yet remains absolutely gorgeous….
Allow me to introduce Handsome. He has occupied my thoughts for quite a while now. Let me fill you in. I visit countless antique shops regularly, and there's one particular place here in GR that stocks the most incredible vintage portrait paintings I never realized I required until I came across them. Several months back, I noticed handsome displayed inside their store. He didn't carry that name back then… I simply called him the "guy portrait I desperately wanted," which eventually evolved into handsome once we finally transported him to White Cottage Farm. He sported a dark suit jacket and wore a confident expression… the tones throughout his painting were unusually rich, moody, and undeniably striking. I simply had to bring him home. Then, for whatever reason, I convinced myself otherwise, arguing that our home had no place for a painted gentleman I had never met. Yet after walking away, he lingered in my thoughts constantly. Throughout our home renovations, I'd scan empty walls picturing where he might go… and this week, following the completion of our floor painting project, I found the ideal nook for him, so I returned to that charming little shop and, remarkably, he remained. Positioned right at the entrance as though awaiting my arrival. How nobody else claimed him during all that time… it felt like fate confirming this was always meant to happen.
And here he is… handsome… mounted in our dining area within that wonderful little alcove. Will this become his permanent spot? Hard to say… we're actively reassembling rooms following the floor painting, so furnishings have been getting relocated and rearranged more frequently than usual lately. You understand how peculiar this journey of residing in a fixer-upper becomes, since we're styling sections of our home that aren't fully restored yet… inhabiting those areas and documenting them here on the blog… while simultaneously renovating them. All the while gathering pieces along the journey… There's a well-known saying: "A room should feel collected, not decorated." And that perfectly captures our approach here at White Cottage Farm… slowly gathering meaningful pieces for every space, and we're thoroughly enjoying the adventure! I genuinely appreciate each of you for visiting the blog today!
