A 21-year-old African-American woman born with a rare genetic disorder has secured a role in a swimwear campaign for the major U.S. retail chain Target, as reported by the Daily Mail. Jayza Gary, who has congenital lamellar ichthyosis—a condition that causes large, plate-like scales to cover the entire body—experiences regular shedding of rough, dry skin every two weeks, which often leads to discomfort. Despite these challenges, she pursued modeling. In the Target advertisement, she wears a yellow textured swimsuit featuring diagonal stripes.

The outfit includes a strappy top and high-waisted bottoms. Her look is accessorized with a chain choker and oversized shell-shaped earrings. According to the outlet, Gary's interest in modeling was sparked when a classmate wrote in her yearbook that she should try the profession. She subsequently attended auditions and signed with a modeling agency in May 2019.
In a related note, Canadian supermodel and vitiligo advocate Winnie Harlow was previously seen in January flaunting a spotted physique in a bright pink bikini from fashion brand HMN ALNS, featuring small triangular cups connected by crossed strings below the bust.
