MAC Quartzette Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour Metallic

Quartzette

MAC Quartzette Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour Metallic (priced at $21.00 for 0.17 oz.) delivers a mid-depth brown laced with warm, rosy undertones and a golden pearl running through it. A single pass produced solid color payoff that fell just short of fully opaque. The formula glided on effortlessly, feeling airy on the lips without veering into watery or runny territory, and because it laid down thin and even, it did not peel or flake as the hours wore on. On me, the shade held up for a solid seven hours, though it leaned slightly drying as the day progressed.

MAC Pearl Punk Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour Metallic

Pearl Punk

MAC Pink Pearl Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour Metallic ($21.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a mid-tone pink loaded with strong, warm undertones and topped with a pearly glow that sits over the matte base. The pearl particles here are finer than in most of the range's other offerings, so the finish doesn't bounce light as aggressively, though it seems more forgiving of the natural texture of my lips. The formula itself feels silky, featherweight and easy to spread — never too dense, never too thin — and it sets quickly enough to avoid sinking into lip lines without making the application a race against the clock. On me, it wore for six and a half hours, leaving my lips feeling neither parched nor moisturized.

  • Kat Von D Muse (LE, ) reads darker (80% similar).
  • Chanel Legende (428) (P, $37.00) reads brighter and warmer (80% similar).

MAC Softly Rockin' Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour Metallic

Softly Rockin'

MAC Softly Rockin' Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour Metallic ($21.00 for 0.17 oz.) shows off a medium peach coral warmed by gentle undertones, finished with a whisper of shimmer over the matte base. The sparkle here is a touch chunkier alongside finer pearl, but on the whole the shade carries less shimmer than most of the other options in the lineup. The texture feels light, creamy and just a touch mousse-like — it isn't runny, yet it spreads easily and never piles on heavily. On the downside, coverage landed at semi-opaque and didn't lay down as evenly as the other shades in the range. It held up nicely for five and a half hours on me and didn't leave my lips feeling dry.
