A Stunning Modern Residence Emerges from a Family Design Partnership

Architect Viviano teams up with his mother Catherine, an antiques enthusiast, to craft a sophisticated home for his parents in Houston.

A Stunning Modern Residence Emerges from a Family Design Partnership

Architect Viviano designed Family HQ as a residence for his parents, drawing on the expertise of his mother Catherine, a passionate collector of antiques. Catherine brought fifteen years of construction experience to the table, offering guidance and direction throughout the process. This project marks her debut as a co-creator in an architectural venture.

Long exterior facade of the residence

The property sits on a slender corner lot in Houston, Texas, USA. Spanning two stories and 4,250 square feet (395 square meters) of living space, the structure features precisely stacked and trimmed concrete masonry blocks.

Lush landscaped garden with verdant lawn sections

Glass entryway framed by a sleek black metal door

Inside, the rooms were envisioned as minimalist, refined canvases designed to showcase the heirloom furnishings the couple brought with them, later juxtaposed with modern accents. Oversized square and rectangular glazing faces inward toward the protected side garden rather than the busy street.

Contemporary lounge featuring a vivid electric blue sofa alongside crisp white armchairs

Sophisticated living space with bold contrasting color palette

The ground level houses a lounge, formal dining room, a hallway lined with built-in storage, and a culinary space. Past the kitchen, a bathroom links directly to the garage. This floor caters primarily to social gatherings and hosting, whereas the upper story adopts a more intimate, traditional layout. Three bedrooms occupy the top floor, two of which include en-suite bathrooms. Outdoor landscaping cultivates a tranquil atmosphere, with a slender row of eucalyptus trees forming a gentle visual barrier that buffers the home from the street.
