The journey began last autumn when I visited my new favorite haven for fabric inspiration and luxury: Well Made Home. Friends and former Pottery Barn executives Melanie Mount and Kelly Willrich established this full-service custom furniture and home furnishings workshop to make exquisite, handpicked artisan textiles more accessible. With countless vibrant, beautifully patterned fabrics to admire, it's clear why they sparked my guest bedroom overhaul. Without a clear plan, I was immediately captivated by interior designer Schuyler Samperton's floral Caledonia in a bold indigo and vibrant mandarin orange. Without hesitation, Melanie and Kelly suggested upholstering a new bed frame—I could even help design the headboard's shape. Brilliant idea! And what about pairing the patterned bed with another complementary pattern, like wallpaper? Textile wallpaper. Wait, that's possible? I quickly discovered that anything is achievable at Well Made Home. And since I never accept "no" for an answer, it was "yes, yes, yes!"
Here's how textile wallpaper works: you can turn almost any fabric into wallpaper by applying a special adhesive to the back. The ladies at Well Made Home ordered Schuyler Samperton's linen Firefly in Ocean, had it treated, and sent it to my house within days—all I had to do was hire a professional to hang it. Easy peasy. The texture is so incredibly luxurious that I want to do this in every room. A few weeks later, my newly upholstered bed frame arrived and was assembled. From that point, everything else fell into place.
The oversized textile print comes from St. Frank. Their mounted, one-of-a-kind framed textiles have been on my wish list for a while, yet I was pleasantly surprised by the print quality—they feel almost three-dimensional! I love the statement it makes and how it pops against my freshly painted matte walls. The chair is an older piece from One Kings Lane, and the Peter Dunham lumbar pillow is, naturally, from Well Made Home's Cushion Shop.
The linen bedding is from Parachute. We have it in our master bedroom, and I adore it so much that I swear I'll never go back to cotton! Here, the shams are in Fog, and the standard pillows and duvet are in Blush. The pillows are a mix from Peter Dunham, Schuyler Samperton, and Walter G.
More art—this piece is from Artfully Walls, my go-to for affordable framed prints.
I bought these ceramic charms in Istanbul several years ago and had them in storage since. I was thrilled to recently stumble across them and thought they'd make a great room accessory.
My second favorite element in the room has to be the beautiful brass switch plates from Forbes & Lomax. They weren't the easiest to install (shear wall issues), but I must say it was well worth the trouble and the wait. I think my determination to incorporate them was largely inspired by how long it actually took me to track them down! The brass sconces are from Wayfair, the bedside table from West Elm, and the vintage bedside paintings from Elsie Green. I love them because they remind me of my hometown, Palos Verdes, California.
