Last New Year’s Eve, I was celebrating with my closest friends in Las Vegas, but this year I’m seeking something more laid-back. To welcome the new year in elegance, I’ve decided to throw a snug slumber party at my new flat in Cape Town!
We’re swapping high heels and dresses for cozy robes and slippers—plus some festive New Year’s decorations, naturally. With my hectic travel schedule, nothing beats a quiet evening surrounded by my closest friends. That’s exactly why I’m planning an unforgettable gathering.
Welcome to My New Year’s Eve Girls’ Night In with Stella Artois!
For me, 2018 is about cherishing the small moments and carving out time for my friends whenever possible. So, on the 31st, you’ll find us all snuggled up, binge-watching our favorite movies while sipping on drinks.
To get ready, I’ve put together the ultimate slumber party checklist featuring drinks, films, games, and more. Inspired to host a low-key New Year’s Eve?

Games: What’s a girls’ night without some games? It’s rare that any of us get to enjoy classic, screen-free games anymore, and slumber parties provide the perfect excuse. For my New Year’s Eve bash, I’ll feature timeless picks like Twister and Monopoly, along with some of my funnier favorites such as Cards Against Humanity and Speak Out.
Drinks: 2018 is the year of Stella Artois Lager and Stella Artois Cidre—especially the cider with its delightful, mild apple sweetness! I also highly recommend stocking up on everything needed to whip up some comforting hot cocoa!
For the ideal holiday cocktail, try a radler! The recipe is entirely up to personal taste, but essentially it’s a mix of cider (Stella Artois Cidre or non-alcoholic) or Stella Artois Lager with an orange slice. Start with a 50-50 ratio, then tweak until you find your perfect blend. If you have best friends who claim they don’t like beer, this will change their minds.
Movies: I adore a themed party! That’s why the entire night will revolve around New Year’s Eve films. I’m not sure how many we’ll actually watch, but I’ll ensure my queue is packed with classics. Plus, you can’t go wrong with some Sex and the City!
Music: Again, it’s all about the theme! While there’s always space for a mix of party anthems, you must include some NYE favorites. That means “New Year’s Resolution” by Camera Obscura; “New Year’s Resolution” by Otis Redding and Carla Thomas; “Funky New Year” by The Eagles; and, of course, a good mashup of various versions of Auld Lang Syne.
Food: You have to go classic for a girls’ night in with perfect sweet and savory accompaniments to Stella Artois Lager and Stella Artois Cidre. At my gathering, it’ll be a buffet featuring popcorn, candies, pizza, and Chinese takeout!
Party Favors: Sheet facial masks, cozy socks, and plenty of party decorations to celebrate the countdown!
