Track Palin, the eldest child of former Republican vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin, was taken into custody on allegations of burglary and assault in Alaska on Saturday, December 16, as confirmed by several news outlets.
The 28-year-old military veteran, who served in the Army, was formally charged on Sunday morning following his detention. The charges include felony burglary, fourth-degree assault, and criminal mischief for allegedly inflicting property damage valued between $250 and $999, according to NBC News. These accusations are tied to a domestic violence incident.
Law enforcement officers apprehended Track in Wasilla, the community where his mother once held the position of mayor.
John Tiemessen, an attorney representing the Palin family, refrained from discussing the arrest. In a statement provided to the New York Daily News, he said, "Considering the nature of the events that law enforcement addressed last night and the charges filed, the Palins are not in a position to offer further remarks. They request that their family's privacy be honored during this difficult period, just as anyone dealing with a loved one facing challenges would hope for."
Track had previously faced domestic violence accusations in January 2016. On that occasion, his girlfriend was discovered hiding beneath a bed, visibly upset, and reported to police that she had been struck in the face by the former Alaska governor's oldest child.
While the assault and interference with a police report charges were dropped at that time, Track entered a guilty plea for brandishing a weapon. Court records indicated that while intoxicated, he at one point held an AR-15 assault rifle near his head.

Track joined the Army in 2007 and completed a one-year deployment in Iraq. During a January 2016 speech supporting then-presidential candidate Donald Trump, Sarah Palin claimed that her son's arrest resulted from post-traumatic stress disorder linked to his military service. She proceeded to criticize President Obama for insufficient support for struggling veterans.
Track, along with his sisters Willow and Bristol and other family members, was also involved in a physical altercation at an Anchorage party in September 2014. Although a police report was filed, no arrests occurred. The report noted that Track was heavily intoxicated, with blood around his mouth and on his hands.
