Detectives uncovered the dismembered remains of 28-year-old performer Sara Zghoul packed inside suitcases found within a black BMW left abandoned on a residential street in Aloha, Oregon.
Local law enforcement officers were called out to investigate after witnesses spotted a man attempting to take his own life by cutting his own throat and wrists, before officers moved in and took him into custody following the grim discovery on Thursday.
The suspect, whose name has not yet been made public, reportedly lives in Aloha, a community situated close to Portland.
Responding officers tracked him down inside a ravine close to the intersection of Southwest Murray Boulevard and Southwest Teal Boulevard.
One bystander described the scene: "It was freezing cold and pouring rain, and he was just out there propped up against a tree.
"The way he was shouting, the desperation in his voice — it was chilling."
Zghoul built a career working as an actress, fashion model, and voice-over artist, and she leaves behind a young son.
A close friend shared: "Sara had an incredible sense of humor, such a warm heart, and she was an amazing mom. She would've handed over her last dollar to anyone in need.
"Her little boy, I honestly don't think he understands yet that his mom is never coming back," another acquaintance told KPTV. "Only a truly monstrous human being could commit something this awful."
Authorities received a 911 call on Thursday evening reporting a homicide, with a body reportedly discovered inside a vehicle parked in an Aloha neighborhood.
Patrol officers canvassed the area and eventually tracked down the BMW, with Zghoul's remains found stashed inside the trunk.
According to an official police statement, the suspect's identity would be disclosed "at a later date."
Members of Zghoul's family have chosen not to speak publicly about the disturbing circumstances surrounding her death.
