“The Pinks” investigates the societal and cultural weight carried by color, examining how preconceived ideas tied to these hues can reshape a person’s identity and their outlook on the world. By placing hyper-masculine or historically infamous figures at the center of his work, Scheidly underscores his argument, using biting socio-sexual satire to ridicule his subjects.
Beneath the initial shock, Scheidly prompts deeper reflection on authority and those who hold it. Featuring notorious personalities like Adolf Hitler, Heinrich Himmler, and Kim Jong Il, alongside religious leaders such as Pope John Paul II and Ayatollah Khomeini, the pieces invite viewers to consider the personal insecurities that power likely provokes—and how those vulnerabilities become visible.
