These baked avocado fries are coated in crispy panko breadcrumbs and paired with a refreshing lime dipping sauce. They come together quickly and easily in the oven or air fryer!
Avocado Fries with Lime Dipping Sauce
This healthy appetizer or snack is perfect when you're craving something crunchy and creamy. If you're cooking for one, simply halve or quarter the recipe—it's a great way to use up leftover avocados. A local restaurant near me serves deep-fried avocado fries, which inspired me to create a lighter version. Avocados are so versatile beyond guacamole or toast (I actually have a whole section dedicated to avocado recipes on my site!). So I had to try making them at home. I tested them in the air fryer with just a few spritzes of olive oil, and they turned out beautifully crispy and golden on the outside while staying warm and soft inside—much healthier than deep-frying. The oven method works well too. In my opinion, the dipping sauce is essential—it brings everything together.
The avocado and lime dipping sauce gets its kick from a chili lime seasoning I'm obsessed with called Tajin (affiliate link). It's a fantastic addition to your spice rack—great on salmon, tacos, scrambled eggs, steak, avocado toast, and even mango or cucumbers! The blend contains ground chile peppers, salt, and dehydrated lime juice; it's not spicy and has no MSG. Trader Joe's offers a similar seasoning, but you can substitute chili powder and salt if needed—though you'll miss the tangy lime note.
Avocado Fries with Lime Dipping Sauce
These avocado fries are made by slicing avocados, coating them in crispy panko breadcrumbs, and air frying until golden and crunchy. The recipe is incredibly simple, and if you don't have an air fryer, you can bake them instead!
Ingredients
- 8 ounces (2 small) avocados, peeled, pitted and cut into 16 wedges
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- 3/4 cup panko breadcrumbs (I used gluten-free)
- 1 1/4 teaspoons lime chili seasoning salt, such as Tajin Classic
For the lime dipping sauce:
- 1/4 cup 0% Greek Yogurt
- 3 tablespoons light mayonnaise
- 2 teaspoons fresh lime juice
- 1/2 teaspoon lime chili seasoning salt, such as Tajin Classic
- 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
Directions
Air Fryer Directions:
- Preheat the air-fryer to 390°F.
- Place the beaten egg in a shallow bowl. On a separate plate, combine the panko breadcrumbs with 1 teaspoon of Tajin.
- Season the avocado wedges with the remaining 1/4 teaspoon of Tajin. Dip each wedge first into the egg, then into the panko mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
- Lightly spray both sides with oil, then transfer to the air fryer basket. Cook for 7 to 8 minutes, turning halfway through. Serve hot with the dipping sauce.
Oven Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 425°F. Follow the same breading steps above, then arrange the coated avocado wedges on a baking sheet. Bake until golden and crisp, about 10 to 15 minutes.
