Blue Ivy Carter has officially turned six years old.
To mark the occasion, the birthday girl commands the spotlight in JAY-Z’s animated music video for “Blue’s Freestyle,” which dropped on the same day as her sixth birthday.
Directed and animated by Maurice Taylor, the lighthearted visual unfolds inside Taylor Hall, where a talent show is underway. Blue appears in a pink outfit, poised for a ballet recital—until the record suddenly scratches to a stop and she begins unleashing her own rhymes. “Never seen a ceiling in my whole life,” she raps, followed by “Boom shakalaka, boom shakalaka!”
In the audience, the cartoon versions of the Carter family are initially stunned. Once they realize Blue is showcasing her MC skills, their expressions shift to smiles and head-nodding, beaming with pride and joy for their eldest daughter.
Back on stage, Blue seamlessly blends her rapping with ballet moves. The six-year-old finishes the performance with a dramatic mic drop, while her younger siblings, Sir and Rumi, make a brief appearance from their crib.
“Blue’s Freestyle” was paired with “We Family” on the deluxe edition of Hov’s critically acclaimed album 4:44. That project earned Shawn Carter a total of eight nominations at this year’s Grammy Awards, scheduled for January 28.
