Keeping track of every new product Makeup Revolution has dropped in 2017 has been nearly impossible. This year stands out as their most prolific for launches, and everything I’ve tested since June has genuinely impressed me. The latest addition is the Life on the Dancefloor collection, a clever set featuring four eyeshadow palettes with 24 pans each, plus three matching lipstick shades per palette. I find this concept brilliant—while you can pair any lip color with any eye look, the coordinated approach adds a fun twist, and I hope they keep this up. I picked up the three neutral palettes from the collection along with the VIP Life On The Dancefloor Lipsticks, since I’m a fan of nude lips and all three shades are gorgeous neutrals.
For makeup, packaging isn’t everything—what matters is the formula inside. But the VIP Life On The Dancefloor Lipsticks boast the most attractive packaging I’ve seen from a drugstore line. Priced at £3 each, these lipsticks come in a stunning gold glitter casing that feels smooth and sleek, not textured as the glitter might suggest. Each tube has a small transparent window on the bottom to show the shade, and unlike the Makeup Revolution Amazing Lipsticks, the bases stay firmly attached.
The three shades—Exclusive, Invite Only, and Elite—appear slightly lighter on the lips than in the bullet. Exclusive is a warm brown nude, Invite Only a pale peachy nude, and Elite a mauvey pink nude. To be honest, I haven’t been a fan of Makeup Revolution’s bullet lipsticks until now; their liquid lipsticks are excellent, but the traditional ones fell short. These, however, have completely impressed me. I can hardly believe they cost only £3 each.
The texture is soft and creamy, without the waxy feel common in cheaper lipsticks. The formula resembles a MAC Cremesheen—easy to apply, lightweight, comfortable, and forgiving on dry lips. They carry a subtle vanilla scent, typical of Makeup Revolution lipsticks. Wear time is about two to three hours, matching what I get from a MAC Cremesheen, but those cost £16.50 and these are £3 with nicer packaging.
I appreciate that each shade is distinct, avoiding the repetitive nudes many brands release. I never anticipated such quality from these lipsticks, and I don’t say this lightly—this formula truly rivals higher-end brands. I’d love to see different finishes, like matte or satin, introduced across the four collections, but I adore all three shades and highly recommend them.
