The 2018 Trips I Can't Stop Dreaming About

A brand-new year calls for a fresh slate of adventures. From nearby escapes to faraway horizons, here's where I'm hoping 2018 takes me.

The 2018 Trips I Can't Stop Dreaming About

A fresh year means a fresh stack of trips to map out. This time around, I'm hoping to wander through captivating pockets of the globe — some just a short hop away, others requiring a serious flight. Got any destinations you're dying to finally tick off? Drop your picks below! And if you crave an extra dose of adrenaline, swing by HonestlyFIT to check out Orissa's epic lineup of adventure travel must-dos.

Kyoto, Japan: Mom and Dad recently got back from Kyoto and couldn't stop raving about the place. Packed with deep history and cultural weight, the city seems to enchant everyone who lands there. Even though I've heard it's stunning under a blanket of snow, I'd much rather roll in during springtime when the sakura bursts into full bloom.

Mérida, Mexico: Mérida has been generating serious chatter lately — the capital of Yucatán remains a wonderfully under-the-radar gem. Beyond a wealth of Mayan ruins scattered across the region, the city draws visitors with its knockout food scene, bustling markets, and a collection of polished boutique hotels and vacation rentals.

Big Sur, California: Now and then, an unforgettable trip hides right in your own neighborhood. Exhibit A: I've called Northern California home for more than a decade and somehow still haven't made the three-hour drive down to the jaw-dropping coastline of Big Sur. No excuses this time.

Petra, Jordan: Petra's been sitting at the top of my list for ages, and even if 2018 doesn't pan out, I'm determined to find my way there before long. Amman has equally been calling my name — a couple of buddies just came back singing its praises, gushing about the warmth and welcoming spirit of the locals.

Lima & Cusco, Peru: Back in my post-college days, a group of friends were trekking across South America and invited me along. A scheduling clash at work meant I had to pick: Brazil or Peru. I went with Brazil — and I've kicked myself ever since. Don't get me wrong, Brazil was incredible, but passing up the chance to climb Machu Picchu and hang out with alpacas still stings. 2018 is the year I finally make it happen.

Montana: Oh, Montana — rugged, gorgeous, and calling my name. It happens to be one of the handful of states I haven't set foot in yet. The real dilemma: a summer escape to a guest ranch (cough, Paws Up, anyone?), or a winter getaway to Big Sky?
