Gal Gadot Honored With Award For Breaking Gender Stereotypes Both On Screen And In Real Life

The actress behind Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot, keeps impressing audiences everywhere. On Thursday, news broke that she had been selected as the honoree for the #SeeHer Award, which will be handed out during the 2018 Critics' Choice Awards ceremony.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the filmmaker who directed Wonder Woman, Patty Jenkins, will deliver the award to Gadot.

Back in June 2016, the Association of National Advertisers (ANA) teamed up with the Alliance for Family Entertainment (AFE) to introduce the #SeeHer initiative, aimed at confronting prejudice toward women within the media. Gadot follows Viola Davis, who became the inaugural #SeeHer Award recipient in December 2016.

ANA CEO Bob Liodice shared these words: "We feel privileged to honor Gal with the second annual #SeeHer Award. Beyond challenging film stereotypes and achieving triumph by headlining one of this year's most massive blockbusters, she leveraged that accomplishment to spotlight her industry and advance the cause of gender equality in everyday life."

Also on Thursday, the Broadcast Film Critics Association issued a statement clarifying that the honor "acknowledges a woman who represents the principles championed by the #SeeHer cause — to challenge conventions around shifting stereotypes and appreciate the significance of depicting women accurately throughout entertainment. Gadot emerged this year as an influential advocate for women, both through her portrayal of the legendary Wonder Woman on screen and through her real-life efforts, harnessing her visibility to motivate those in entertainment and elsewhere to pursue equity between genders."

The performer expressed her appreciation to the ANA and AFE through an Instagram post.
